instructor spotlight - anthony dentino

In a new series called Instructor Spotlight, our goal is to promote and help you get to know our instructors here at Clarizio Music Center. Whether you’ve been taking lessons with them for years, are starting this week, or are just curious, we’d like to highlight the amazing individuals that instruct with us, here at Clarizio Music Center.

This week, we highlight Anthony Dentino, a guitar, bass, and piano instructor. Along with instructing with us here at Clarizio Music Center, Anthony has found success both as an educator in Lakewood, NJ and as a guitarist in his band, Poeta. Anthony offers a range of beginner and more advanced lessons, making him a great instructor if you are interested in bringing your musical chops to the next level. Below is a more personal interview with Anthony by Riley Kindler

Q: What inspired you to go into teaching music?

A: My guitar teacher definitely inspired me to be a guitar teacher. He was amazing at it, he taught here at Clarizio’s, 18 years ago, and just made me fall in love with the craft. Ever since then, I knew that I wanted to educate others on how much playing guitar changed my life. That’s when I realized, “Oh, okay, this is something I want to do.” If I could do that for someone else, and to show them that the more and more you do it, the better and better you get at it and hopefully inspire them, the way that I was inspired. What is even more mind-blowing is getting paid to do something that I love!

Q: What are some musical inspirations of yours?

A: My first real inspiration for playing music was, like, old-school Linkin Park and Blink-182, who are two of my favorite bands. But nowadays, I enjoy listening to bands like Mastodon, Alice in Chains, and a lot of other heavier bands, which really just keeps me going.

Q: What is something you enjoy doing in your free time?

A: I play soccer in a men’s league, which is very enjoyable. Besides playing soccer, I also enjoy working out.

Q: What’s a little-known fact about you?

A: I am a very spiritual and introspective person. I love reading up on self-help and practicing meditation.

Q: If you could have three albums with you on a desert island, what would they be?

A: The first one is “Drift” by Erra, that would be the first one I’d have, for sure. The other two that I would have are “Jar of Flies” by Alice in Chains and probably “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket” by Blink-182.

Q: What goal would you like to accomplish in your lifetime?

A: I think I’d like to teach music to a child of my own someday. I’d also like to see all 50 states, currently I have seen 45 states. The states that I have not  seen yet are Alaska, Hawaii, North Dakota, Louisiana, and Alabama.
