Cello and Violin

Mayumi Grasso has been playing the piano since age 6 and the cello at age 9. Mayumi graduated from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, where she studied cello with Deborah Reeder and Ulrich Boeckheler. She graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Music in Performance and in 1993 with a Master of Arts in Teaching.

She has performed with many orchestras including the Bay Atlantic Symphony, Garden State Philharmonic, Trenton Symphony, Princeton Symphony and Orchestra of St. Peter-by-the-Sea. She has performed with famous artists including Ray Charles, Mannheim Steamroller and Il Divo. She is also featured in the video, “Feels Like Today”, by the muli-platinum country group Rascal Flatts.

She is the cellist for the La Mer Ensembles, who plays for various events such as weddings, corporate events, etc. She plays in many local theater groups in the pit orchestra, such as the Algonquin Theater and Hackensack Meridian Health Theater (previously known as Count Basie Theater). She has been teaching piano, violin and cello privately for over 20 years.

She taught strings in the Philadelphia Public School System for 3 years then at Drum Point Elementary School for 2 years. Presently she teaches general music and chorus at Midstreams Elementary School where she has been teaching for 15 years, and has taught strings at Midstreams for 10 years.
